Hemp CBD For Pets Serving Guidelines

How to Use HempMy Pet™ Products and Serving Size Guidelines

Which Product Should You Buy?

When shopping the HempMy Pet™ website all the products you see are made with the exact same full spectrum (all the cannabinoids, terpenes, etc.) hemp extract, grown organically here on our farms and produced by us seed-to-sale. We have both Biscuits and Oils. The oils have only two ingredients – the carrier oil and the hemp extract.

Infused Oils. For our oils we offer three choices, all of which are infused with the same hemp extract:

  • Hemp Seed Oil – a wonderfully nutritious carrier oil + the hemp extract in 250 mg and 1,000 mg concentrations. (This is the most common and popular type, often referred to as a ‘Tincture’.)
  • Coconut Oil – a tasty and healthy carrier oil + the hemp extract in 100 mg and 500 mg concentrations. (Also great for topical use like rubbing in a cat’s ears for absorption.)
  • Olive Oil – organic and virgin carrier oil in a large 4 oz. bottle + hemp extract in a 5,000 mg concentration. (‘Barn-friendly’ for use with horses and great for households with large or multiple dogs.)

Biscuits. Only natural and organic ingredients. Crunchy but not hard. The Small Biscuits deliver 2 mg per biscuit. The Large Biscuits deliver 5 mg per biscuit.

What About the Concentration?

The label of each product is specific to the about of total CBD in it. Since everything has the same hemp extract, generally speaking, the lower concentrations are most often used by smaller pets or those taking lower doses. Larger pets or those taking higher doses select the higher concentrations to lower the overall volume of oil used as well as save on the cost. The Serving Size guidelines are below.

So Many Benefits and Uses!

How to Use

Start with the suggested dosage (see below) and slowly acclimate during first week of use. If desired results are not achieved, slowly increase dosage.

The HempMy Pet™ Serving Size Guidelines

First, you’ll notice all of our products list ‘hemp actives’ and not just CBD content alone. Our hemp extract is considered “full spectrum” which means that all of the naturally occurring active compounds that are present in the hemp plant are also present in the extract (i.e. cannabinoids, terpenoids, etc.). All of these constituents interact synergistically in what is referred to as the “entourage effect”- thus increasing the efficacy of the oil and its health benefits. Our hemp extract is considered to be “CBD-rich” because our hemp plants are bred to be high in CBD, which means that they produce oil that is also high in CBD. There are also what are considered “minor” cannabinoids present in our plants and extracts, such as CBN, CBG, THC and THCa, as well as terpenes, and flavonoids which also contribute to the entourage effect. For determining serving size, we solely use the CBD content (measured in milligrams “mg”) because it is the most abundant cannabinoid in the plant, extract and finished product, and is also what we base our formulation on, so this keeps things consistent and accurate.

Serving Size (AKA ‘Dosage’)

All based on mg of CBD.

We always recommend consulting with your veterinarian. Every pet and every condition are unique. In the HempMy Pet Clinical Study by independent veterinarians, effective servings ranged widely, from as low as 0.3 mg/kg to 4.12 mg/kg (1.36 mg per 10 lbs to 18 mg per 10 lbs of the pet’s weight). This information is to be used for general guidelines only.

Serving size guidelines are based on your pet’s weight. Starting ‘low and slow’ is the recommended approach. It may take a few days to a couple of weeks for you to begin seeing any results, especially while you fine-tune what works best for your pet. (Or you may see results immediately – again, all pets are unique.) The correct amount for your pet is to be determined, please be patient and remember these are herbal formulas and not pharmaceuticals and work very differently in each pet’s system.

You can give on an empty or full stomach.

You can give divide the amounts into multiple servings during the day, we usually recommend twice a day for best results.

Our infused oils only have two ingredients – the hemp extract and the chosen carrier oil (organic coconut oil, organic hemp seed oil, or organic olive oil).

To begin – ‘Low and Slow’. If you and your pet are brand-new to hemp oil it is recommended to begin ‘low and slow’, starting with a really low serving size and slowly adjusting over days and weeks as needed. This is for two reasons:

  1. No need to hurry and waste. Your pet may only require a small amount. So while it’s true we know of plenty of large dogs that take less than 10 mg, for example, it is equally true that we also know many small dogs that take more than 10 mg, etc. Again, your pet’s right amount is to be determined with some testing and time.
  2. While not common, we want to make sure the introduction of new oils to their digestive systems does not upset them in any manner. If any loose stool results back down the dosing and give them even more time to acclimate. If it continues to disagree with them stop using and return the product. Customer Support can help you with any returns.

On this really low end some veterinarians have recommended a graduated 3-tier approach, taking up to a week to observe each tier before moving on, if necessary.
Tier 1 : 0.05 mg per lb of bodyweight is the low end
Tier 2: 0.125 mg per lb of bodyweight is the middle ground
Tier 3: 0.25 mg per lb of bodyweight is the high end

Two basic levels of Serving Size – “Supplemental” vs. “Therapeutic”

Working with feedback from our Customers and consulting with our Veterinarians we have found most pets end up with serving sizes falling into two basic levels, the lower daily “Supplemental” (includes preventive”) and the higher “Therapeutic” intake. Correspondingly, we have formulated both our Infused Coconut Oil and Infused Hemp Seed Oil in lower and higher concentrations to best meet these needs and cover all sizes, weights and conditions effectively.

The 250 mg Hemp Seed Oil and the 100 mg Coconut Oil both advise with Daily Supplemental recommendations ranging between 1-2 mg per 10 lbs. of your pet’s weight. The lower concentrations better allow for micro-increments such as 1.25 gm, 1.5 gm, 1.75 gm, etc.

The 1000 mg Hemp Seed Oil and the 500 mg Coconut Oil assume a more Therapeutic level recommending between 2-3 mg per 10 lbs of your pet’s weight. The higher concentration allows for more milligrams of the hemp actives using less oil overall.
