After having DS my anxiety has been through the roofs, to the point where I can’t sleep at night because I find myself worrying throughout the night.. I’m exclusively breastfeeding and I heard some mothers using CBD oil for anxiety/depression..What are your thoughts? Any specific rec brand?

My thought ask your doctor what he/she thinks about using cbd oil.

I don’t think it would be a good idea because there is very little research done on CBD oil which also means NO research done on using CBD oil while breastfeeding.

MY PERSONAL OPINION: I don’t think there would be anything wrong with it because you’re not getting high off of THC but just to be on the safe side, I still wouldn’t do it.

I bought an owlet baby monitor and it has done wonders for my anxiety at night. I suffer from PPD AND PPA so I totally get it.

That’s a hard one. It’s trending so much right now that I’m sure in 10 years there will be proper studies that will answer your question. But for now I’d try other means to help relieve your anxiety. Chamomile tea, lavender essential oil, yoga, meditation. Heck you can even have a beer right after a feed. Probably the best option would be a therapist.

I’ve taken CBD oil as pain management twice, and it did nothing for anxiety. Unless you have to take it more often for it to work. I’m not sure how it works for anxiety. I’m on an anti-depressant and that has worked wonders for my anxiety. I’d consult your doctor to find the best way to manage your anxiety. They might have a CBD oil route to recommend.

Hi there, I have been working so hard to deal with my PPA and insomnia. I’ve done the tea, meditation, breathing, yoga, no screens hours before bed, you name it. I am also seeing a therapist. Finally, I went to a psychiatrist who prescribed Zoloft and said it’s safe to take while breastfeeding. I’m sorry I don’t know about the oil, but the Zoloft is already helping me sleep. I still wake up in the night but am able to get back to sleep rather than lying there with my mind racing for hours. I’m hoping it continues to help so that I will stop waking in the night. I am also starting to feel more like myself again during the day. I’m sorry you’re dealing with anxiety too. It is so hard!

Glass of wine before bed helps me. I also have emergency ativan for the occasions that the anxiety is really really bad. CBD oil is unfortunately more if a pain management hing I think. Almost sure that a “sweet spot” level of THC would be what can alleviate anxiety and that does get into your breastmilk and will remain for about 6 days. There is not enough research to know whether there are long term effects of pot use on baby’s development. That being said, I know several women who use pot for their anxiety and who switched to formula so that they could do so without feeling horribly guilty.

If you’re not breastfeeding, I say go for it! I used to be on anxiety meds but didn’t want to get back on after pregnancy because they’re highly addictive and difficult to get off. Before making your purchase, make sure to do some research. It can be expensive if you’re getting high quality oil, but definitely worth it.

CBD oil would definitely help with falling asleep. Before LO I would take a hit of a high CBD strain of marijuana if I were having problems falling asleep. It helped me with anxiety too, but I couldn’t smoke it during the day because it would put me to sleep!

I agree with PP’s that the research is extremely limited for how much it effects breastmilk, and the possible effects on LO’s development. I actually found a study a while back that said something like 0.002% gets into the breastmilk, but the study had such a small sample group that I couldn’t take it as fact. Maybe now that Canada’s legalized it we will actually get some good studies done!

Personal opinion wayyyy better for a breastfeeding mom than any other prescription med! But I personally think marijuana (medical grade) is better than any pill so ‍♀️
